This week On The Fringe brings you the underground, UK, neurofunk/drum and bass duo Mind Vortex.
Mind Vortex is made up of Laurie Carroll and Stefan Anfield, who upon hearing Resonant Evil’s “Troubleshoot”, knew that their musical futures where going to be in drum and bass. But these are not just some laptop junkies, these two producers are the real deal musicians. Both being classically trained, Laurie Carroll on saxophone and clarinet, and Stefan Anfield on the piano. Researching and fine tuning their craft for a woping 6 years, studying diverging musical styles and genres so they could understand what makes a spectacular, magical drum and bass track.
After all that time spent in the lab, the duo finally decided to sign to a label, and on the top of that list was Andy C’s Ram Recordings. But before signing to Ram, they released two singles on Plush Recordings, “Now It’s Time” and “Onslaught”.
Impressive for any up and coming D&B group, their music was first released on Ram Recordings on Andy C’s “Nightlife 5” mix. Then in January the duo released their first Ram single, “Hotbox” which dominated beatport drum and bass charts and solidified them at the top of up and coming drum and bass acts. And not only that, they ended their year with their featured mix on Drum & Bass Annual 2012 going number one on iTunes’ dance chart.
Mind Vortex’s latest single is “Alive/Arc” which includes “Arc”‘s devilish VIP edit. Alive being a beautiful vocal, and hook filled track, while Arc is a vicious neurofunk bass blast to the face! With expertly produced drum and bass music and unrivaled talent, Mind Vortex are destined to take over the drum and bass scene in the very near future.
